He leads the Control Systems Research Group at LJMU and act as co-director of the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Research Centre (MEMARC). His current research interests include fault detection and fault tolerant control of bilinear and nonlinear systems, adaptive neural networks and their control applications, model predictive control for chemical processes and automotive engines and real-time evaluations, in these areas he has published more than 200 journal and refereed conference papers and these papers have been cited more than 1120 times.

Plenary Speaker I

Assoc. Prof. LIU Yan, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong

Dr Liu is the director of Cognitive Computing Lab, which focuses on both discovering the secrets of human brain by exploring information technologies, for example, fMRI imaging, and investigating novel computational models and systems by referencing brain structure and mind process, for example, deep learning. In addition to the theoretical study on the leading edge of scientific research, she works on applications with great commercial potentials, such as music therapy for emotional health. Her research interests span a wide range of topics, ranging from brain modeling and cognitive computing, imageideo retrieval, computer music to machine learning and pattern recognition. Dr Liu holds a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia University in the US and MSc in Business School from Nanjing University in China. The most precious gift her got from her graduate study was the love of doing research, which benefits her enormously in her whole career path. Dr Liu has been the principle investigator of more than ten projects and awarded the best paper awards several times. She serves as the organizing committee/technical program committee members for many conferences such as AAAI and ACM Multimedia, and as the reviewers for many journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems as well as ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology.

Plenary Speaker

Assoc. Prof. SUN Hanqiu, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Dr. Hanqiu Sun received B.S. in electrical engineering from HUST, M.S. in electrical engineering from University of British Columbia, and Ph.D. in computer science from University of Alberta, Canada. She is adjunct professor at University of ESTC, visit professor at Zhejiang University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Prof. Sun has published more than hundred technical papers, book chapters and international conferences refereed such as SIGGRAPH Asia. She has served as guest editors of MIT PRESENCE and Journals of CAVW and IJIG, program co-chair of ACM VRST, Chinagraph, organization co-chair of Pacific Graphics, CGI, director of advanced workshop on VR, and numerous international program committees. She has joint 973 national major projects in virtual reality and augmented reality.
